The ANU Medical School took its first intake of students in 2004 but was built on the foundation of the Canberra Clinical School (part of Sydney University) and the John Curtin School of Medical Research. It is a postgraduate school with a four-year course enrolling approximately 100 students per cohort. The general practice component occurs primarily in the first clinical year (3rd Year) with students being placed with GPs in Canberra and rural NSW. This component forms part of an integrated six-month term that also includes paediatrics and community health.
