The GPSN First Wave Scholarship Program offers students, selected via a formal application process, a choice of two different experiences:
Clinical General Practice Scholarship
Students undertaking a Clinical Scholarship complete six supervised clinical placement sessions in general practice.
Academic General Practice Scholarship (where available)
Students undertaking an Academic Scholarship complete four supervised clinical placement sessions in general practice as well as work on a general practice-related research project. Clinical placement sessions, which are of 3.5 hours duration each, involve a clinical placement supervisor providing both instruction and guidance to the medical student. Supervisors are carefully chosen to provide a quality exposure and are typically GP registrars within the GP training program.
Students are allocated a clinical placement supervisor based in a suitable medical practice. Each clinical placement session is at least 3.5 hours duration.
Clinical scholars complete 21 clinical placement hours and academic scholars complete 14 clinical placement hours. Students who elect to undertake an Academic Scholarship will be allocated both a clinical placement supervisor to supervise their clinical placement sessions and an academic placement supervisor, who will supervise their research.
